Lord A.H.G. Grey
Bergamot flavored green or black tea
Description
Green tea or black tea flavored with Bergamot.
Here is a superior quality that stands out from the rest. Here, an excellent Ceylon tea base, characterized by a particularly filiform, very regular and finely spiced leaf, has been combined with a proportion of the best tea from Yunnan. To this special base is added an equally exceptional aroma, which we have found in the natural oils of bergamot originating in France and Italy.
History
In 1833, AHGGrey, Earl of Howick Hall, then British Prime Minister, suspended the East India Company's price monopoly on the tea trade with China.
Originally pure Chinese tea was lightly flavored with fine bergamot oil. This citrus plant, which was provided by the Chinese, was intended to protect the tea from the taste of mold and tar, which might arise from the long sea voyage to royal England. This is how this tea got its name and, even today, Earl Gray is the epitome of the finest English tea.
